A four-week bootcamp launching this September is inviting developers to explore new ways of building decentralised finance apps directly on Bitcoin, without relying on bridges or token wrappers.
Led by ICP in partnership with DFINITY, the programme promises to open doors to a more direct interaction with Bitcoin’s base layer. The bootcamp starts on 8 September, with a hackathon lined up once the sessions wrap.
Participants will get hands-on experience working with emerging Bitcoin-native technologies like Ordinals, Runes and BRC-20. The curriculum also includes building smart contracts on Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), as well as exploring privacy tools such as vetKeys for onchain encryption. Cross-chain functionality with Ethereum, Solana and others is also part of the offering.
The organisers say the bootcamp is designed for builders who want to do more with Bitcoin beyond holding or simple transfers. The aim is to equip teams with practical tools to develop apps that use real BTC in creative and secure ways.
This shift toward native Bitcoin applications has been gathering pace over the past year. Projects in the Ordinals and BRC-20 space have sparked renewed interest among developers who were previously limited by the constraints of Bitcoin’s scripting language. At the same time, the growing popularity of multi-chain infrastructure has made integration between networks more accessible.
By skipping over bridges and wrapped assets, developers avoid several points of friction, including security risks and custody concerns. That’s especially relevant in light of recent exploits where bridges were the weak link. For many in the DeFi space, direct interaction with BTC is increasingly seen as both cleaner and safer.
The bootcamp is being hosted through Encode Club, which regularly runs blockchain-focused learning initiatives and developer programmes. While interest is expected from early-stage teams and Web3 founders, the organisers say it’s open to anyone with coding experience and a genuine curiosity about Bitcoin-native app building.
Applications are now open, with spots expected to fill quickly as September approaches.

Dear Reader,
Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.
We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.
If you find value in what we publish—whether it’s deep dives into dApps, explainers on decentralised tech, or just keeping track of what’s moving in Web3—please consider making a donation. It helps us cover costs, stay consistent, and remain truly independent.
Your support goes a long way.
