Caffeine adds approval system for app building access

Caffeine has introduced a new approval system that lets app owners decide which commenters can gain access to build and edit their applications.

Under the new feature, a commenter who wants to contribute to an app can select “Request to build”. The app owner then receives a message identifying the person making the request and can decide whether to approve it.

If the request is approved, the user receives building access with the same permissions as the app owner. This means they can contribute directly to the app rather than remaining limited to commenting.

The approval process is designed to keep control with the person who owns the app. Simply commenting on an application does not give someone permission to make changes. Building access is granted only after the owner confirms the request.

The feature could be useful for people working on applications with friends, colleagues or other contributors. An owner can allow another person to help develop an app when they are ready, while keeping editing permissions restricted until then.

It also creates a clearer distinction between participating in an app as a commenter and actively helping to build it. Users can express interest in contributing without receiving access automatically, while owners retain the ability to decide who can make changes.

Caffeine has been developing a model that allows users to create and modify applications through natural language, making collaboration an important part of the platform’s wider workflow. Giving app owners control over building permissions adds another layer to that model.
