Caffeine is preparing for its Phase III rollout on 15 October, bringing features aimed at scaling live applications and supporting millions of draft apps. A key addition is the option to enable pay-for-usage, allowing developers to manage costs more efficiently as their applications grow.
The update also integrates ICP blob storage, offering an immutable and cost-effective alternative to traditional canister memory. At around $0.025 per gigabyte compared with $5 per gigabyte for canister memory, the storage solution is designed to support media-heavy applications such as photo galleries and personal cloud drives without excessive expense.
By combining scalable pay-for-usage with low-cost, high-capacity storage, Caffeine Phase III seeks to make it easier for developers to launch and maintain applications that handle large volumes of data. The update reflects ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure efficiency while expanding the types of applications that can be built on the Internet Computer.
Developers and users can expect the new features to be available from 15 October, offering both technical flexibility and financial feasibility for applications that require heavy data handling.
