ckSOL proposal aims to bring Solana assets to the Internet Computer

Proposals have been submitted to the Internet Computer’s Network Nervous System (NNS) to deploy ckSOL, a token designed to bring Solana’s native SOL cryptocurrency into the ICP ecosystem.
The proposed token would be backed on a one-to-one basis by native SOL, allowing users to access a representation of SOL within the Internet Computer environment. If implemented, ckSOL could help connect Solana assets with decentralised finance applications operating on ICP.
The initiative could create new options for cross-chain activity, allowing users to explore DeFi services on ICP while using value linked to SOL. The announcement also points to the potential for fast, low-cost transactions, although actual costs and performance would depend on the implementation and the applications involved.
The ckSOL proposal follows the chain-key approach used within the Internet Computer ecosystem to connect assets and blockchain networks. Such systems aim to make digital assets available across different networks without requiring users to rely solely on conventional third-party bridging arrangements.
However, submitting NNS proposals does not in itself confirm that deployment has been approved or completed. The outcome of the governance process, along with the final technical design and launch arrangements, will determine when ckSOL becomes available and how users can access it.
If approved and successfully deployed, ckSOL could give ICP developers another asset to work with when building decentralised exchanges, lending services and other cross-chain financial applications.
Further details on the proposals and deployment timeline will be needed to establish when users can expect to access ckSOL and what safeguards will support its one-to-one backing by native SOL.
Dear Reader,
Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.
We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.
If you find value in what we publish—whether it’s deep dives into dApps, explainers on decentralised tech, or just keeping track of what’s moving in Web3—please consider making a donation. It helps us cover costs, stay consistent, and remain truly independent.
Your support goes a long way.
