DFINITY launches Internet Computer MCP plugin for ChatGPT

By Maria Irene · 16 Oct 2026

The DFINITY team has launched an official Internet Computer connector for ChatGPT, allowing users to interact with applications on the blockchain through natural-language prompts, subject to the permissions they grant.

The Internet Computer Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector is designed to link AI assistants with applications across the Internet Computer ecosystem. According to the project’s website, users can look up information, call application methods and manage supported app functions without writing code.

The connector is available as a ChatGPT plugin listed as Internet Computer (ICP) by DFINITY Stiftung. DFINITY also provides a custom MCP server for other compatible AI applications, including Claude.

Users connect through Internet Identity, choosing the access level and session duration. The connector offers a Questions only option for read-only use, while Actions & questions allows the AI assistant to perform supported actions on the user’s behalf.

DFINITY says access grants are time-limited and can be revoked. Users can also review authorised AI connections through Internet Identity settings. These controls allow users to limit access, although they should still review the permissions they approve and the actions an AI assistant is asked to perform.

The integration is intended to reduce the need to switch between applications for tasks such as checking information, analysing data and carrying out supported operations. Its practical capabilities will depend on the applications connected to the Internet Computer and the functions those applications expose through the connector.

MCP, or Model Context Protocol, provides a standard way for AI systems to connect to external tools and services. In this case, the connector acts as an access point between an AI assistant and supported Internet Computer applications.

The launch gives developers and users another way to interact with the Internet Computer ecosystem through conversational AI, while placing authorisation and session controls at the centre of the connection process.

More information and setup instructions are available on the official Internet Computer MCP website.
