ICP smart contracts expand cross-chain reach with NEAR integration

ICP Hub Egypt has announced that Internet Computer (ICP) smart contracts can now hold assets and sign transactions on the NEAR blockchain, extending its cross-chain capabilities. The update allows NEAR users to access fully on-chain storage, on-chain frontend execution, and smart contracts that operate independently, without relying on traditional Web2 infrastructure.

This development builds on ICP Hub Egypt’s earlier integrations with Sui, TRON, XRP, and Cardano. The integration allows smart contracts to hold keys, sign transactions on external chains, and perform operations without bridges, custodians, or external servers. By distributing key shares across nodes and using chain key verification, ICP Hub Egypt ensures transactions are executed securely and decentralised, relying on cryptography rather than intermediaries.

The move opens opportunities for cross-chain applications, including decentralised finance protocols, automated liquidity management, and inter-chain contract-to-contract communication. Experts caution that performance, security auditing, and governance frameworks will be critical as developers begin experimenting at scale.

ICP Hub Egypt frames this as part of a broader vision for sovereign infrastructure, where smart contracts act independently while interacting seamlessly with other networks. The organisation is encouraging developers across ecosystems to explore these new capabilities, signalling a growing focus on decentralised multichain collaboration and autonomous protocol execution.

Dear Reader,

Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.

We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.

If you find value in what we publish—whether it’s deep dives into dApps, explainers on decentralised tech, or just keeping track of what’s moving in Web3—please consider making a donation. It helps us cover costs, stay consistent, and remain truly independent.

Your support goes a long way.
