ICPay is introducing a paid-channel model designed to give creators a direct way to earn from the communities they build on the Internet Computer.
The feature allows users to create channels and set a joining price in ICP. The concept is straightforward: rather than relying entirely on advertising or platform-based monetisation, creators can charge their audience for access and receive the proceeds through their wallet.
According to the announcement, users can access the feature through Menu > Channels > Create, then set the joining cost for their channel. For example, a creator charging 1 ICP for membership would receive 10 ICP if 10 people joined, 100 ICP from 100 members and 1,000 ICP if the channel reached 1,000 paying members, assuming the full joining fee is paid to the creator and before any applicable fees or other conditions.
The model is aimed at creators who already have an audience and want to turn that community into a direct source of income. It could be used for paid communities, exclusive content, specialist groups or other channels where members are willing to pay for access.
ICPay describes its Channels feature as broadcast communities with public discovery, private invitations and support for formatted posts. The service is built around ICP payments, allowing users to receive funds without relying on conventional payment infrastructure.
The proposal reflects a broader shift in how online creators can think about monetisation. Advertising remains an important source of revenue for many digital platforms, while subscription services, memberships and direct payments have given creators additional ways to generate income. ICPay’s approach puts the payment directly alongside the community rather than making advertising the primary mechanism.
For creators, the attraction is the simplicity of the calculation. A channel charging 1 ICP has a clear relationship between its membership size and potential gross revenue. A creator with 100 paying members would have 100 ICP in membership payments, while a larger community of 1,000 members would generate 1,000 ICP at the same price.
The model does, however, depend on a creator being able to attract and retain paying members. Setting a joining price does not guarantee income, and the value of the channel will ultimately depend on the content, community and willingness of users to pay.
ICPay itself is positioned as a wider payment and community service on the Internet Computer. Its website says users can claim a username, receive ICP payments and use Channels alongside other features including on-chain storage and developer tooling.
There are also considerations users should understand before relying on the service for payments. ICPay states that its wallet is custodial and has not been audited. Its published information says users can verify its open-source code, mainnet canister and transparency information.
That distinction is relevant to creators considering the platform for regular income. A payment feature can make collecting membership fees easier, but users still need to understand how the wallet operates, where their funds are held and what protections are available.
The paid-channel launch nevertheless gives creators another option for building revenue around their communities. Instead of measuring an audience only through views, followers or advertising impressions, the model places a direct monetary value on membership.
For a creator who can build a loyal community, that could make the size of the audience itself a more direct part of the earning model. ICPay
