ICPay launches icBucket with zero bandwidth egress fees for on-chain storage

ICPay has introduced icBucket, an on-chain object storage service on the Internet Computer that aims to help developers reduce bandwidth costs when hosting digital assets and application data.
The service targets decentralised application (dApp) developers, startups and software-as-a-service (SaaS) businesses that rely on cloud storage to deliver files and other content to users.
According to ICPay, icBucket offers zero bandwidth egress fees, meaning users can download stored content without the storage provider charging a separate fee for outbound data transfer. The service also offers a REST API compatible with Amazon S3, allowing developers to connect through API keys using the icp_cloud_* format.
Payments are made in Internet Computer (ICP) tokens from a user’s wallet balance, according to the announcement.
Traditional cloud storage providers, including Amazon Web Services, commonly charge for data transferred out of their infrastructure. These charges can add to hosting costs for applications that serve large volumes of downloads. However, actual costs vary according to provider, service tier, region and usage, and some providers offer allowances or alternative pricing arrangements.
ICPay says icBucket stores objects fully on-chain through the Internet Computer network, offering an alternative to conventional cloud infrastructure. Developers considering the service will need to assess its storage capacity, performance, availability, security and compatibility with their existing applications before migrating production workloads.
To mark the launch, ICPay is offering a 70 per cent discount on all 30-day capacity tiers. The announcement does not specify the promotion’s end date or the regular prices of the available tiers.
Developers can access the service through icpay.app/bucket.
The launch adds another storage option for developers exploring blockchain-based infrastructure, although its practical value will depend on workload requirements, network performance and the total cost of storage and access.
Dear Reader,
Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.
We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.
