ICPay targets crypto scams with username-based transfers

ICPay is promoting username-based crypto transfers as a way to reduce the risk of address poisoning and clipboard hijacking, two scams that can cause users to send funds to the wrong wallet address.

The platform says users can send funds to verified @usernames, removing the need to copy and paste long wallet addresses when making a transfer.

According to ICPay, its system uses zero-hash ambiguity to link a verified username with its intended destination, helping users avoid mistakes caused by spoofed or manipulated wallet addresses.

Address poisoning typically involves scammers sending transactions to a wallet that resembles a user’s regular transaction history, while clipboard hijacking malware can replace a copied wallet address with an attacker-controlled address before funds are sent.

ICPay says its username system is designed to make the destination easier for users to recognise before confirming a transaction.

The platform is built on the Internet Computer and allows users to use verified identities for transfers. Users can access the service through the ICPay website.
