id.ai adds recovery phrases to Internet Identity 2.0, completing essential security features

id.ai has introduced recovery phrases to Internet Identity 2.0, marking the completion of a full set of core security and restoration tools. The feature allows users to recover their identity without needing an identity number, and all previous recovery phrases from Internet Identity 1.0 can now be used directly on the 2.0 platform. Identities not yet upgraded will automatically move to the new system during recovery.

The update comes after repeated requests from users for a simpler and more reliable recovery process. The flow has been redesigned to address previous issues, including delayed activation of recovery phrases. Now, a recovery phrase becomes immediately usable once it is displayed, even if the verification step is skipped. Users are guided to record their phrase carefully, and verification is simplified: instead of typing each word, users confirm the phrase by selecting words in order, reducing the risk of errors, especially on mobile devices.

During recovery attempts, the system now provides clear feedback. If the phrase belongs to an existing identity, the user is informed which identity it links to. If the phrase is invalid due to an incorrect word or order, it is clearly marked. If the phrase is valid but does not match any identity, the system informs users that it may belong to a different product.

The development ensures that Internet Identity 2.0 reaches parity with version 1.0, enabling dapps to transition with confidence. Users are strongly encouraged to set up recovery phrases to safeguard access to their identity, whether they lose a physical security key, reset a device, or lose access to linked accounts or password managers.

With these updates, Internet Identity 2.0 provides a streamlined, user-friendly recovery process, reinforcing the platform’s focus on security and usability.
