Internet Computer tests autonomous cross chain actions with live Sui and Cardano transactions

Internet Computer developers are widening the scope of the network’s on chain capabilities after ICP Hub Egypt confirmed that canisters carried out transactions on Sui last week and pushed a live ADA transfer on Cardano’s mainnet this week. The update has drawn attention because the actions were executed without custodians, servers or private keys stored on local machines.

The team describes the result as early evidence that the Internet Computer can interact directly with other blockchains. They argue that the ability for the protocol itself to generate and hold keys for principals and Internet Identities creates a different foundation to most cross chain systems, which tend to rely on trusted operators, external servers or hardware devices. According to the developers, the network level design is intended to function as a public cryptographic utility rather than a set of tools controlled by individual teams.

Developers say the long term aim is to turn this work into an autonomous bridge where smart contracts on each chain coordinate activity without human involvement or centralised infrastructure. Similar claims are made across the sector, so observers will likely watch for how the project manages issues such as transaction reliability, chain specific quirks and security once traffic grows.

The team is inviting people to test an early version of the Cardano integration through a temporary link where users can generate an ADA address tied to their principal ID. They caution against sending more than two ADA during this phase as the setup remains experimental and will be folded into a broader vault system that is planned to support a dozen or more chains. A similar smart contract deployment on Sui is also being prepared.

The group behind the update says they will keep the test live for a few days before switching it off. They have also asked the community which chain they should target next, pointing to options such as Solana, TON, Cosmos, Aptos, Hyperliquid and Bitcoin. Their view is that if a chain’s cryptography does not require reinvention, they can integrate it and run it autonomously.

Questions remain about scalability and how the approach will compare with established bridging solutions, yet the experiment highlights a direction many in the industry are exploring: reducing dependence on intermediaries and testing whether networks can carry out cross chain functions directly.

Dear Reader,

Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.

We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.

If you find value in what we publish—whether it’s deep dives into dApps, explainers on decentralised tech, or just keeping track of what’s moving in Web3—please consider making a donation. It helps us cover costs, stay consistent, and remain truly independent.

Your support goes a long way.
