Alexandria Library has unveiled IPG, a decentralised crypto payment gateway built on the Internet Computer (ICP), designed to give merchants direct control over their funds while simplifying crypto payments. Supporting $BTC, $ETH, $BNB, and $USDT with ECDSA, IPG operates without platform fees, relying solely on network gas to process transactions.
Unlike traditional crypto payment processors such as Coinbase Commerce or BitPay, which act as intermediaries and hold customer funds, IPG allows each store to deploy its own isolated smart contract. This ensures that funds never touch the platform’s infrastructure, removing custodial risk and eliminating the possibility of account freezes.
Integration is straightforward. Merchants can add a single line of code to their website to start accepting crypto payments, while private keys are handled automatically through threshold key derivation. End-to-end encryption with VetKeys ensures that all transactions remain secure and fully on-chain. There is no KYC requirement, no signup forms, and no servers to maintain, giving merchants global reach with minimal technical overhead.
The design of IPG emphasises autonomy. Merchants manage their own canisters and cycles, meaning they control their store operations entirely. Alexandria Library has positioned IPG as a tool to empower the crypto community, allowing developers and merchants to experiment with decentralised payments in a fully on-chain environment.
Currently, the platform operates without a revenue model. Any future fees would be directed to benefit $alex stakers, ensuring that the service continues to prioritise the community. IPG’s approach positions it as a Stripe-like solution for crypto, but with a crucial distinction: merchants hold and control their own funds at all times.
Industry observers note that the launch comes at a time when businesses and online merchants are exploring ways to accept cryptocurrency without relying on third-party custodians, as concerns around security, compliance, and centralised control remain high. By enabling truly self-custodied transactions, IPG may help accelerate adoption and give merchants a clear alternative to existing payment solutions.
