Nvidia and NSF Forge $30 Million Partnership for Responsible AI Innovation

Nvidia, a global AI chip leader, and the United States National Science Foundation (NSF) have joined forces to launch the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) pilot. This initiative aims to propel responsible AI discovery and innovation by providing broader access to essential tools. Nvidia commits $30 million in technology contributions over the next two years, emphasizing its dedication to advancing AI research.

The NAIRR pilot is set to leverage insights from researchers using Nvidia’s platforms, aiming to enhance the efficacy of technology. Nvidia will contribute its cutting-edge resources, including the NVIDIA DGX Cloud AI supercomputing and NVIDIA AI Enterprise software. The collaboration extends to 10 additional partners within the U.S. government, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Sethuraman Panchanathan, NSF director, emphasizes the urgency of developing resources for the future of AI in America through collaborations on the NAIRR pilot. The partnership reflects a collective commitment to driving advancements in AI research and fostering innovation in responsible AI practices.

Katie Antypas, director of the Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure at the NSF, envisions NAIRR evolving to provide comprehensive access to computing, data, models, and software for researchers and communities. This collaboration signals a significant step forward in creating a robust infrastructure to support AI discovery and innovation in the United States.
