OpenChat connects Discord and Telegram communities to decentralised messaging

By Maria Irene · 27 Oct 2026

OpenChat, a decentralised messaging platform built on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), has introduced a feature that allows communities on Discord and Telegram to relay messages directly into OpenChat.

The update is designed to make communication easier across platforms, allowing users to connect their existing accounts rather than requiring everyone in a community to move to a single messaging service.

Users can link their Discord and Telegram accounts through a new “Linked accounts” section in their OpenChat profiles. Once connected, messages relayed from those platforms appear in OpenChat under the users’ own identities.

The feature could help decentralised communities reach members who continue to use mainstream messaging apps, reducing the need to maintain separate conversations across different platforms.

For communities built around blockchain projects and decentralised applications, cross-platform messaging can help keep members connected while allowing them to use their preferred chat services.

However, the announcement does not specify whether the integration supports every type of message or community feature available on Discord and Telegram. Details about privacy controls, moderation across platforms and any technical limitations were also not provided.

The integration adds another option for communities seeking to connect users across messaging services while maintaining a presence on OpenChat, which operates on the Internet Computer network.
