What’s Going Down in the Quirky World of Crypto?

Welcome to our roundup of recent off-the-wall crypto stories—a little bit of tax, a dollop of big cat and a Facebook goat called Bitcoin!

Florida studies taxing issue

Nobody likes paying taxes, but maybe they’re a little more palatable when paid in Bitcoin.

Miami-Dade County’s public administration is considering allowing residents to pay their taxes and service fees using digital currency.

If approved, a task force will investigate the feasibility of the proposal, which seems to have plenty of upside. Crypto payments could potentially be cheaper and more convenient, also giving the area’s tech and startup network a boost.

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has already thrown his hat in the ring, with an aggressive campaign to make the city a true crypto hotspot. Tax time might never be the same again.

Bitcoin gets Mark Zuckerberg’s goat

Mark Zuckerberg is never far from a news story, and this time he’s got everyone’s goat by sharing a photo of his pets.

The controversial Facebook CEO posted a picture of his two pet goats—named Bitcoin and Max—kicking off a storm of speculation about the ‘secret meaning’ of the names.

Ironed-on Bitcoin maximalists, who believe Bitcoin will one day rule the world, say the answer is there for all to see. Other social media users refer back to earlier rumours about Facebook buying Bitcoin.

They might be overthinking it. After all, Facebook is apparently developing its own stablecoin, diem, with a trial earmarked for later this year. Diem, pegged to the dollar, could be used to purchase goods and services, CNBC reports. Time will tell!

Raining cats, dogs and crypto coins

If every dog has its day, every cat has its own crypto coin. That’s the case for Tiger King star Carole Baskin, who has just launched her own cat-themed alt coin.

Founder and CEO of Big Cat Rescue, Carole shot to stardom through the Netflix series, profiling her real-life fight against the underworld of big cat breeding and exploitation in the US.

“Putting the power of money in the hands of the people”, Carole has issued the $CAT coin—or fan token—which can be used to buy sanctuary visits, merchandise and, coming soon, virtual visits with the cat stars themselves.

The cat lady is faring better than her counterpart Elon Musk, who has just made a dog’s breakfast of his Saturday Night Live appearance—dissing dogecoin and sending its price plummeting.

Oh, and dogecoin is named after a fun internet meme featuring a Shiba Inu dog. Purrfect.
