Game On: Yuga Labs Unleashes Project Dragon

Yuga Labs, the powerhouse behind the renowned Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), is gearing up to launch its eagerly awaited non-fungible token (NFT) game, Project Dragon. Set for release on July 27, 2024, this new venture is the latest offering from a company that’s been at the forefront of the digital asset revolution.

In a recent blog post on July 18, Yuga Labs, via its Othersidemeta account on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed the upcoming launch of Project Dragon. Established in 2021, Yuga Labs has made a name for itself as a digital asset incubation studio that leverages web3 technologies to create compelling stories, experiences, and communities. The studio is home to several popular NFT collections, including BAYC, Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), Bored Ape Kennel Club (BAKC), and Twelvefold.

Yuga Labs’ influence extends beyond these well-known collections. The company also manages the CryptoPunks, Meebits, Voyagers, and Kodamara NFT collections. Earlier this year, Yuga Labs expanded its portfolio by acquiring Proof Collective, the team behind successful NFT projects such as Moonbirds, Oddities, and Grails.

Project Dragon was first announced by Yuga Labs co-founder Greg Solano in May 2024. Solano revealed that the game, along with other new crypto projects, would be developed on the ‘ODK’ platform. This platform aims to enhance the creation and monetization of 3D games and social gaming experiences within the crypto ecosystem.

The Project Dragon game promises to be an adrenaline-packed 3D-monetized action game designed for large-scale team battles. It will be exclusively available on Otherside, a metaverse gaming world also developed by Yuga Labs. Otherside is an ambitious project that combines elements of massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) with web3-enabled virtual worlds.

The development of Otherside has been a significant undertaking for Yuga Labs. The platform made its debut in August 2022 with the “First Trip” NFT game, which allowed 4,500 concurrent users to explore its 3D world. This was followed by the “Second Trip” in March 2023, which successfully hosted over 7,000 users. Now, with Project Dragon, Yuga Labs aims to attract even more participants.

What sets Project Dragon apart is its integration with various NFT collections. Holders of Meebits, Voyagers, Kodas, BAYC, MAYC, BAKC, Grailed, Moonbirds, Kodamara, and HVs NFTs will be able to participate in the game. This inclusive approach not only broadens the game’s appeal but also reinforces Yuga Labs’ commitment to creating a cohesive and interconnected digital ecosystem.

The anticipation surrounding Project Dragon is palpable. As Yuga Labs continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the metaverse and NFT space, the launch of this game is expected to be a significant milestone. The company has consistently demonstrated its ability to innovate and captivate audiences, and Project Dragon is poised to be another standout achievement.

As the countdown to July 27 begins, the gaming and crypto communities are buzzing with excitement. Yuga Labs’ track record of successful projects and its visionary approach to digital assets suggest that Project Dragon will be a game-changer in the world of NFT gaming.
