Canva, a leader in visual communication and design tools, has unveiled a groundbreaking addition to its platform: a music library featuring sixty-second clips from some of the world’s most renowned artists. This new feature is aimed at Canva Pro and Education customers, enabling them to infuse their creative projects with popular songs, thereby elevating the impact and appeal of their designs.
This innovative move by Canva marks the first time a visual communication platform has integrated commercially released music at the point of creation. Users now have access to over half a million songs across various genres from artists like Michael Buble, Vance Joy, Kenya Grace, and Curtis Mayfield. This extensive range allows users to add a dynamic audio layer to their designs, whether they are creating videos, social media posts, presentations, or educational materials.
Canva’s latest feature reflects the growing trend of video-based content, particularly on social media platforms. With online video usage accounting for more than 65% of global internet traffic, Canva’s integration of popular music meets a crucial need for content creators. This update is especially significant given the 10-fold increase in the use of Canva’s TikTok templates and the rising demand for specific artists and songs in audio searches.
Moreover, this feature is not just a boon for Canva users but also for the music industry. Popular music on Canva offers record labels and artists a direct channel to millions of creators, along with the opportunity to earn royalties when their songs are used in published Canva designs.
Silvia Oviedo, Head of Content, Discovery and Print at Canva, explained the rationale behind this move. “Like visual communication, music is a universal language that serves as a powerful tool for self-expression,” she said. “Adding popular music to Canva is a natural evolution of our vision to put the entire visual communication ecosystem under one simple platform.”
Canva’s music library, accessible from the audio tab in the Canva editor, features a diverse range of genres, from chart-topping pop to classic jazz and danceable disco. This feature opens up myriad possibilities for DIY designers, content creators, and educators, allowing them to infuse their work with musical elements that reflect their personality or enhance their message.
The music library is currently available to Canva Pro and Education customers, with plans to extend it to small enterprises using Canva for Teams and Nonprofit users. The service is available in several countries, including Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, among others. While free Canva users can browse the music library, they will need to upgrade their subscription to use the songs in their designs.
The launch of this feature is the result of partnerships with Warner Music Group, Merlin, and over a dozen other labels and publishers. These collaborations are indicative of Canva’s commitment to providing its users with a comprehensive range of creative tools.
As Canva celebrates its 10th year, this development is part of its continued expansion and innovation. The platform has added numerous new products and features over the past year, attracting over 65 million new users and reaching a total of 16 million paying subscribers and 50 million Canva for Education users.
