The free-to-play mobile strategy game Legends at War is set to usher in a new era of gameplay by integrating with the Avalanche blockchain network, according to an announcement by developer Solert Games and Ava Labs. The classic MMORTS game, with over 10,000 downloads and a 4.2 rating on Google Play Store, will soon allow players to have a blockchain-backed ownership of in-game items through Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).
Legends at War, currently available on iOS and Android, offers players an opportunity to build their kingdom in a medieval English setting, assemble armies, and command battles for territorial conquest. Its upgrade into the realm of blockchain technology will add a dimension of real value to the virtual accomplishments within the game.
The Ava Labs’ Head of Gaming, Ed Chang, affirmed that the integration of NFTs will open doors to a self-regulating economy within the Legends at War universe. “Solert is currently focused on building out the platform to enable Legends at War and third-party titles to leverage their virtual economy with NFTs and tokens,” Chang stated.
To execute this innovative move, Solert will utilize its own subnet—a dedicated instance of the Avalanche blockchain—to streamline transactions with its native LAW gas token. While the specifics of the NFTs rollout remains under wraps, Solert intends to empower its players with decision-making authority on issues related to game governance and multiplayer strategy.
“Our mission of integrating the social aspects of Web2 with the user control and decentralization of Web3 will create a gaming experience like no other,” said Solert Games CEO and co-founder Wojciech Kaszycki.
Adding an edge to the Legends at War brand, the actor Hafthor Bjornsson, popularly known as “The Mountain” from the acclaimed HBO series “Game of Thrones,” is featured in the game’s promotional materials.
Formerly known as Sabre Games, Solert had to undergo a name change due to copyright conflicts with Sabre Interactive, a publisher of titles like World War Z and Evil Dead: The Game.
The move to crypto-empowered gameplay isn’t unique to Solert Games. Other major studios like Com2uS, Mythical Games, and InfiniGods are exploring a similar path, indicating a shifting trend towards a mobile-first approach to blockchain gaming.
