A brief visit to the barber’s chair has turned into an unexpected showcase of what decentralised app-building can look like in everyday life. A developer known as RailmanICP built a small app in just 15 minutes while waiting for his haircut, using Caffeine, an emerging open-source platform for creating apps directly on the Internet Computer (ICP).
According to his post, he told his barber he’d make something on the spot. By the time his turn came, the app was done—and the barber was reportedly fascinated by what he saw. The moment caught the attention of Caffeine’s creator, Kristofer Lund, who responded that this small, spontaneous project captured something much larger than a quick coding experiment.
Lund said that while many in the crypto community talk about building advanced products—cross-chain tools, automated funds or decentralised exchanges—the real opportunity lies in simplicity. “Imagine ten million barbers, lawyers, bakers,” he wrote, “each realising they can build their own smart booking forms or home pages.”
He added that ordinary users could soon create mini apps for personal or family use—budget trackers, planners or small business tools—without needing technical expertise or subscriptions to expensive software. The idea is to make app creation as intuitive as writing a note, powered by blockchain infrastructure that ensures data security, ownership and resilience.
Caffeine’s concept fits within a growing movement to simplify decentralised development. By removing coding barriers and hosting apps directly on blockchain nodes, the system offers a way to create custom tools without traditional servers or third-party control. It positions itself as a platform for both developers and non-developers alike.
While still in its early stages, the exchange between RailmanICP and Lund hints at a wider cultural shift within the tech world—from building for crypto insiders to empowering everyday creators. For small businesses like local barbers, it’s an early glimpse of how blockchain technology could move from niche applications into the fabric of daily life.
