Developers and stakeholders in the Internet Computer ecosystem are being invited to review proposed changes to the ICRC-3 standard before broader adoption in ledgers, libraries and DeFi tooling. The revisions seek to address potential ambiguities and ensure compatibility as the standard sees wider implementation.
The proposal includes an expanded explanation of how ICRC-1 and ICRC-2 calls map into ICRC-3 blocks, with new corner cases explicitly addressed, such as transfers involving the minting account. The previous use of certain block type values has been removed to prevent ambiguity that could affect existing ledgers.
Transfer operations are now more clearly defined, with the specification providing detailed guidance on minting, burning and invalid transfers. Verification procedures have been clarified, offering a more systematic approach to how blocks should be interpreted and validated.
The updates also include recommendations for interacting with other standards. This guidance is intended to prevent transaction collisions, enable deterministic transaction lookup, and ensure predictable mappings from method calls to blocks. The aim is to support emerging uses of ICRC-3, including multitoken ledgers and the recording of DeFi component execution for verifiability and auditability.
Community feedback is being sought from library implementers and ledger developers. After this consultation, a motion proposal will be put forward to adopt the revised ICRC-3 as the new standard, providing a clearer and more stable foundation for future development.

Dear Reader,
Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.
We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.
If you find value in what we publish—whether it’s deep dives into dApps, explainers on decentralised tech, or just keeping track of what’s moving in Web3—please consider making a donation. It helps us cover costs, stay consistent, and remain truly independent.
Your support goes a long way.
