Caffeine AI Moves Past V2 as Team Races Towards V3 Release

Dominic Williams, founder of DFINITY, has announced that the V2 engine of Caffeine AI is now live, with the team already shifting its attention to the next release, V3.

Posting on X, Williams said the move reflects a decision to prioritise what comes next rather than continue refining V2. He described V3 as a faster and more capable upgrade that could broaden what builders can do with Caffeine’s natural-language app creation tools, particularly for those developing what he calls tamperproof, onchain applications through the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP).

Williams pointed to the impact of recent AI coding products such as Claude Code, which have helped popularise “vibe coding” by making software creation feel more conversational and accessible. In his view, V3 is intended to bring similar power to developers working in decentralised environments, where applications are designed to run without relying on traditional cloud infrastructure or cybersecurity layers.

He suggested the release could arrive “in weeks, not months” if progress continues as expected. While timelines in software development often shift, the message signals a sense of urgency inside the Caffeine team, with Williams calling V3 an inflection point for the platform.

Caffeine AI has been positioned as a way for users to build applications using plain language rather than writing code line by line. Williams claims usage is growing quickly, saying hundreds of thousands of unique builders are now using the platform each month, even before a major marketing push has begun. Independent verification of those figures is limited, but interest around AI-assisted development tools has been rising across the industry.

Much of Williams’ post focused on a broader argument about the direction of crypto networks. He expressed frustration that much of the Web3 space remains dominated by token speculation, DeFi activity, and metrics such as total value locked, rather than mainstream software utility.

He framed ICP’s ambition differently: as an attempt to deliver a decentralised form of cloud computing where applications can run fully onchain, remain resilient, and avoid some of the security weaknesses of conventional systems. That vision, he argued, was at the heart of early “world computer” ideas long before tokens became the main focus.

Williams also claimed that the majority of builders now coming into the ICP ecosystem have mainstream backgrounds and are motivated by what they can build, rather than by crypto trading. If accurate, that would mark a shift from earlier blockchain cycles, where speculation often drove most attention.

Still, challenges remain. Turning experimental platforms into widely adopted enterprise infrastructure is difficult, and the broader market for decentralised cloud services is still emerging. Questions around scalability, developer experience, governance, and real-world adoption will likely shape how far Caffeine can go beyond its early community.

Williams hinted that partnerships, marketing, and further announcements are being prepared alongside V3. He also reiterated an ambitious target of reaching millions of builders on ICP before the end of 2026.

Whether Caffeine’s next version delivers on the scale of change being promised will become clearer once V3 lands. For now, the update reflects growing confidence inside DFINITY that AI-driven app building could be one of the most practical bridges between blockchain infrastructure and everyday software creation.

Dear Reader,

Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.

We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.

If you find value in what we publish—whether it’s deep dives into dApps, explainers on decentralised tech, or just keeping track of what’s moving in Web3—please consider making a donation. It helps us cover costs, stay consistent, and remain truly independent.

Your support goes a long way.
