DFINITY Hosts Students in Zurich for Hands-On Blockchain Learning and Global Community Exchange

The 6th International Summer School on blockchain brought students from around the world to Zurich for a full day of learning at the DFINITY Foundation, home of the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP). With a packed schedule and speakers from both the Foundation and the wider ecosystem, the visit gave attendees a close-up view of how the technology is evolving — and who’s building it.

Björn Assmann, Staff Research Scientist at DFINITY, welcomed the students and outlined the day’s agenda, setting a tone that mixed technical depth with community connection. Emilio, Director of Global Adoption, spoke about the expanding ICP HUBS Network, which supports local communities around the world in growing grassroots awareness and usage of the Internet Computer.

Gorazd Osvirk, founder of KongSwap, brought a builder’s perspective with a walkthrough of how his decentralised exchange came to life on ICP. His session focused on what it takes to move from idea to launch, and what developers can learn from his experience.

Brandon Cohen, Director of Talent at DFINITY, shifted the conversation to careers — sharing practical advice on where demand is growing and how to prepare for opportunities in Web3. He highlighted the importance of curiosity, adaptability, and community engagement in shaping a path in the space.

Joining remotely from Cape Town, Brenton Naicker of ICP HUB South Africa shared stories from the region and encouraged the students to stay connected with the wider global community. His remarks closed the loop on the day’s message: blockchain is being built everywhere, and every voice has a role to play.

The visit gave participants an inside look at both the technical and human sides of decentralised infrastructure. With topics ranging from developer journeys to international collaboration, it reflected the many directions the ecosystem is taking — and the people helping shape its future.

For many, it was a rare chance to meet those leading the work behind the scenes and walk away with connections that extend beyond the classroom.
