The first proposal under Mission70 is now live, formally placing the planned increase in replicated subnet memory costs before the Internet Computer’s Network Nervous System for a vote.
The motion seeks to raise the price of onchain replicated subnet memory by 2.5 times. According to DFINITY, the change is intended to better reflect the security guarantees, redundancy and operational overhead associated with storing data directly on replicated subnets. If approved, the adjustment would take effect through the network’s governance mechanism.
Mission70 sets out a broader target of reducing ICP inflation by at least 70 per cent by the end of 2026. The strategy combines supply side measures with plans to expand demand through new functionality and partnerships. Repricing memory is framed as the first step in that process, with the foundation arguing that higher revenues from core resources would increase deflationary pressure on the token.
At the same time, DFINITY has said that low cost blob storage is in development to provide a cheaper option for applications storing large volumes of mostly static data. Dominic Williams recently indicated that updates on blob storage are expected in the coming weeks, a point that many developers are watching closely.
The proposal also notes that computation and network cycle pricing will be reviewed separately, and that adjustments should minimise any impact on the Internet Computer’s competitiveness as an onchain cloud platform.
As with all governance motions, the final outcome will depend on how neuron holders vote. The result will offer an early indication of community appetite for the economic recalibration outlined in Mission70, and may shape the direction of further proposals expected to follow.
Dear Reader,
Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.
We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.
