Crypto transaction now possible in seconds on KuCoin

0

KuCoin, an IDG-backed global crypto exchange, announced that it was going instant. The Instant Exchange service allows instant crypto transaction service for BTC, ETH, LTC, XRP, BCHABC, and USDT.

KuCoin Instant Exchange service is developed by KuCoin (launched in 2017) and a top quantitative market maker of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). After a user submits an order, KuCoin and its partner will find the optimal exchange rate in the global market and make an immediate settlement. Compared with traditional crypto-to-crypto trading, with Instant Exchange, some transactions can even be completed in 1 second.

It also supports large orders, which will not cause large price fluctuations in KuCoin’s spot market. In addition, the price shown on the service page will be the final transaction price, meaning that there is no transaction fee, which can improve transaction efficiency and reduce transaction costs. Johnny Lyu, co-founder of KuCoin, said: “As ‘The People’s Exchange’, KuCoin has been committed to providing users with secure, simple and convenient trading experience, so that more people can embrace the blockchain and crypto world.”

How Handshake can make a world of difference online

0

Imagine owning a domain that cannot easily be shut down by the government? Having complete control over emails, browsers, social media, and mobile phones without anyone being able to have access to our private data? That’s what Handshake hopes to do.

Handshake is a new naming protocol that’s backwards compatible with the existing DNS. It does not replace the DNS protocol, but it replaces the root zone file (where TLD ownership is stored) and the root servers with a blockchain-based system that anyone can use. This allows the root zone to be uncensorable, permissionless and free of gatekeepers like the ICANN which manages the root zone today.

A quick background. DNS or Domain Name System (DNS) is a decentralised naming system for computers, services, or other resources connected to the Internet or a private network. DNS has been an essential component of the functionality of the Internet since 1985. It hasn’t changed much since to address threats to freedom and safety on the Internet.

In the current DNS hierarchy, at the top is the root zone which is managed by the ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, an American nonprofit organisation responsible for coordinating the maintenance and procedures of several databases related to the namespaces and numerical), which determines who gets what TLD or top-level domain.

TLDs are installed in the root zone of the name space. ICANN, the centralised entity that manages the root zone today, determines what top-level domains (TLDs) — like .com, .net, .org — are allowed. ICANN requires a $185,000 USD application fee to request a new TLD, and applications for new TLDs are currently closed. This artificially limits the availability of good domains for website owners and developers.

The current centralised nature of internet names results in a potential loss of privacy and censorship. Even if your domain registrar offers WHOIS protections, your information can still be subpoenaed from a domain registrar. Governments and ISPs commonly use DNS filtering and redirection to censor domains. ISPs on the other hand often monetise personal DNS data by selling your web browsing history.

Handshake on the other hand is a new naming protocol that’s backwards compatible with the existing DNS. It does not replace the DNS protocol, but it replaces the root zone file (where TLD ownership is stored) and the root servers with a blockchain-based system that anyone can use. This allows the root zone to be uncensorable, permissionless, and free of gatekeepers like the ICANN which manages the root zone today.

Every peer in the network cryptographically validates and manages the root zone, which also removes the need for the Certificate Authority system (CAs) entirely.

Names are logged on the Handshake blockchain — essentially one big distributed zone file that anyone has the right to add an entry in.

Existing TLDs will be blacklisted from being registered on the network and Handshake resolvers will use traditional TLDs as the source of truth when you visit a traditional domain like namebase.io. Naturally, the Handshake resolvers will use the Handshake blockchain as the source of truth when you visit a Handshake domain like namebase/.

Handshake domains are Top-Level Domains that anyone can register, not just ICANN. They can be used like a traditional TLD — i.e satoshi.nakamoto/ — or by themselves — i.e satoshi/ — as a standalone name.

Handshake ensures DNS records can only be modified by a domain’s owner. This ensures Handshake domains can’t be censored or maliciously redirected. Registering a Handshake domain respects the privacy of the owner by requiring no personal data during registration.

It’s no wonder Handhake is gaining traction now.

We would like to see a future where Bitcoin value is not measured in FIAT terms: Coinomi

0

Coinomi is one of the most familiar brands among crypto enthusiasts. Their decentralised wallets are available on mobile and desktop to iOS and Android customers. Since their inception in 2014, they’ve been consistently innovating and introducing new products into the market. In our last discussion, we spoke to Coinomi about their planned foray into DeFi space. In this discussion, we talk about the upcoming halving of Bitcoin. We also spoke about other exciting projects that’s caught the attention of team Coinomi.

Are you excited about Bitcoin halving?

Having the emission rate of the most important cryptocurrency cut in half again, is certainly not something that can be ignored in the grand scheme of things. There are popular models, such as the stock to flow model and the mayer multiple which, if respected by the market forces, predict tremendous gains for holders. However, for us, it changes nothing – we will keep building as we have always done, and ideally, we would like to see a future where the value of Bitcoin is not measured in FIAT terms at all, as that’s when you know that Bitcoin has moved to the next stage in its evolution, ie from store of value to a real medium of exchange.

What else are you following closely?

We’re excited about the growth of L2 solutions and important Bitcoin protocol updates (Taproot, Schorr signatures, etc), many exciting projects in the DeFi space, as mentioned before, the evolution of mimblewimble into several privacy-based assets, and also Tari, which is a promising L2 solution for Monero.

“We have secretly been working on something that will provide the absolute safest haven for your funds”

Any projects/coins in particular?

We’d rather not mention any coins/tokens by name as Coinomi strives to be a neutral financial node that supports a multitude of projects without endorsing any.

What’s next for Coinomi?

We have secretly been working on something that will provide the absolute safest haven for your funds, but unfortunately we cannot disclose any more information on that yet. Stay tuned!

More to come on our exciting discussion with Coinomi. Stay tuned…

Why Electroneum’s M1 crypto smartphones flying off the shelves in Cambodia

0

For the first time since in cryptocurrency history, including Bitcoin’s, a blockchain start-up is working directly with a mobile network operator. As a result of their agreement, the M1 Electroneum crypto smartphones that Cellcard of Cambodia ordered initially flew off the shelves in just under two hours.

Cellcard ordered 250 M1 smartphones from us based on the number of our mobile devices they estimated would be sold in one month but when it flew off the shelves within two hours they had to place fresh orders for the crypto phone

Cambodia’s fastest-growing and most progressive mobile network operator Cellcard and the most disruptive crypto in the space, UK-based Electroneum, on 31 January announced their agreement to enable airtime and data top-ups with ETN.

Cellcard launched a promotional sale of the M1 Electroneum smartphone with the built-in ETN App that gives up to US$3 a month in ETN that can be used for mobile top-ups and to purchase everyday items in several countries around the world.

As the mobile phone sector continues to grow globally significantly, Electroneum has positioned itself as the only crypto project that has enabled its users to quickly and easily top-up their phones and earn the ETN to purchase the airtime and data. That is through AnyTask, the fairest freelance platform in the industry, as it does not charge sellers of tasks any fees.

Non-Fungible Tokens score with NBA and NFL

0

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have been gaining a lot of popularity in the sports and gaming industry, two sectors which have been largely affected by the rise of blockchain technology.

In fact, gaming is what brought NFTs to the limelight back in 2017 with the popularity of the crypto-collectibles game CryptoKitties. Since the rise of CryptoKitties, many projects have started working with NFTs and it has also drawn the attention of tech giants like Microsoft.

The sports industry has also seen its fair share of NFT utility. Popular sports like football, NBA, NFL, have all seen NFTs in action. Internationally acclaimed clubs are taking advantage of the growing demand for NFTs. Blockchain tech is an ideal solution for creating traceable and tradable digital assets that help draft a tokenized economy.

Leading Italian football club Juventus, in partnership with blockchain-enabled fantasy football startup Sorare, is now offering blockchain-based digital collectible cards of its players. Sorare has also licensed digital collectible cards from 37 different clubs, including Roma, Napoli, West Ham, Lyon, Atletico Madrid, Porto, and Schalke.

Decentraland is another massive NFT based game that was launched recently, three years after its ICO in 2017. The game is basically a virtual world where people buy and sell digital land as well as construct buildings. The game, which uses native token MANA as the in-game payment method, had raised $20 million selling MANA tokens during the ICO. Bloomberg said in a recent article that over the last week Decentraland gamers have purchased over $1 million worth of digital anchorage on the Ethereum-based game.

The NBA and NFL are also inclined towards implementing NFTs to boost the underlying economy of the sports. In the recent NFT NYC event dedicated to non-fungible tokens, Adrienne O’Keeffe, associate vice president of partnerships at the NBA, and Sophie Gage, counsel at the NFL Player’s Association, were part of a panel that discussed the value of blockchain technology for big brands.

Draper: Still a believer in Bitcoin

0

After pulling his wealth out of public stock markets six months ago, VC investor and serial Bitcoin proponent Tim Draper says he still holds “a lot” of his portfolio in Bitcoin (BTC). In a recent interview, Draper revealed that he had significantly added to his crypto holdings since last year.

“I’m just a believer,” he said in the interview. Draper was speaking as stock markets plummeted worldwide due to concerns over coronavirus. Draper added that his VC firm, Draper Associates, was still active in private markets. His other major crypto investment, Tezos (XTZ), has more than doubled since the start of the year. Many other remarks were already known to Bitcoin supporters, including a $250,000 price target, which Draper now feels will come by around 2022.

Electroneum’s freelance platform AnyTask goes global

0

Following several weeks of highly successful internal and external beta testing, Electroneum has finally announced the global soft launch of AnyTask. Electroneum CEO and Founder Richard Ells says there are over 80,000 sign-ups to the blockchain-powered freelance platform with hundreds and hundreds of sellers creating tasks. Currently, there are over 700 live tasks, and nearly 100 have been purchased from buyers before we’ve even started running ads.

The freelance platform though is still at its very early stages, Ells explains.

AnyTask provides people around the world the opportunity to sell their skills online and earn Electroneum (ETN), but does not require the seller to have a bank account and allows them to keep 100% of their profit.

The ETN earned is held in the anytaskers’ Electroneum wallet and can be spent in any location that accepts it, on mobile phone top-ups, or simply exchanged into a local fiat currency or swap for another cryptocurrency.

‘DeFi projects will play a major role soon, and Coinomi is ready to collaborate’

0

During the 2017 bull run, at the height of the ICO/Crowdfunding space, Coinomi was one of the few crypto wallets investors could rely on to participate in hand-selected ICOs from inside the application. A lot has changed since then. The wallet space has become over-crowded and DeFi has replaced the ICO buzz. With all the changes that have come about, Coinomi still remains a preferred wallet for many crypto enthusiasts.

In this interview, Coinomi chats about how they are ready to collaborate with DeFi projects.

They say real projects get built during a bear market. So what have the engineers at Coinomi been busy with in 2019.

Indeed, bear cycles and lower volumes are a great opportunity for companies in the space to focus on building more diverse, robust services. While development in Coinomi never ceases, during the last bear cycle we released our much-awaited Desktop clients for all platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux), we refactored and upgraded our entire infrastructure and backend, and we pushed out multiple updates for our mobile clients to include functionality such as Dapps browser, web3 support, walletconnect, collectibles, full UXTO control/do-not-spend flags, the option to use your own trusted ElectrumX node, support for multiple crypto-DNSs & Naming Services (such as UD, ENS and FIO), and most recently, multi-seed support, with separate encryption settings for each one.

Additionally, we are always working on BTC itself, and much requested features such as multisig, MPC, RBF/CPFP and others are in the pipeline. Finally, as always, more protocols and their assets were constantly being integrated, while a big UI rehaul for Android took place in late 2019.

‘In 2017, we saw a huge increase of the ICO/Crowdfunding space, and Coinomi was one of the few wallets investors could use to participate in  ICOs from inside the application’

You’ve been through two bull markets since 2014. Are you ready for the third one coming?

If one zooms out enough, you can argue that there’s only been one 10-year bull market! On a more serious note, it’s indeed important to realise that markets move in cycles and that each cycle boasts unique particulars and characteristics that should be explored and acted upon by companies and services. For example, during the last one, we saw a huge increase of the ICO/Crowdfunding space, and Coinomi was one of the few wallets investors could use to directly participate in hand-selected ICOs from inside the application. Also, there was a tremendous demand for altcoins as well as a growing demand for many new stablecoins, most of which were quickly supported natively by Coinomi.

As for the upcoming one, we strongly believe that DeFi projects will play a major role, and Coinomi is ready to collaborate with those teams and offer direct access to all this amazing innovation to its millions of users, all from within their wallet. Our dApps and web3 support ensures that users can interact with those services securely, without the need to use external tools and third party browsers and/or applications, while remaining in full, true ownership of their funds and keys.

This is Part 1 in a series of interviews with Coinomi. More to come. Stay tuned!

Ethereum Classic announces collaboration with Fantom

0

Ethereum Classic Labs has announced that it has formed a collaboration with the nonprofit foundation behind Fantom (FTM), a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) based smart contract platform that aims to solve the scalability issues of distributed ledger technologies, to bring crypto-agnostic DeFi features to the Fantom ecosystem.

According to Fantom Foundation CMO Michael Chen, the company will leverage the DeFi-oriented public blockchain that traverses Fantom and Cosmos (ATOM), Xar Network, to mimic Maker’s DeFi platform.

Ethereum Classic’s biggest role within this new initiative looks to be adding support for ETC as collateral to mint a stablecoin on the Fantom platform, similar to DAI on Ethereum (ETH).

The collaboration appears to be part of Ethereum Classic Labs’ mission to promote the “ETC is hard money” narrative.

UNICEF embraces blockchain after Ethereum Foundation makes huge crypto donation

0

Donating to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) may turn out to be the Ethereum Foundation’s smartest move yet. In October 2019, Ethereum donated roughly $150,000 worth of bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH) to UNICEF’s experimental crypto fund. Ethereum Foundation Director Aya Miyaguchi recently announced that the company has decided to continue the support for the next couple of years as they believe a partnership with a group like UNICEF can maximize impact without shifting focus.

Since the October donation, the UNICEF Kazakhstan office has developed an ethereum-based system for processing internal payments, such as sending funds from the UNICEF headquarters to people running a local education program. UNICEF partnership specialist Oleksandra Gaskevych said they are now planning to test bitcoin as well for digital currency transfers.

Gaskevych said the office expects to start transitioning over to the ethereum-based system in 2021.

UNICEF is also partnering with SoftBank Investment Advisers (SBIA) to develop a structure for distributing cryptocurrency. Chris Fabian, co-lead of UNICEF Ventures, said so far the crypto fund is starting slow by funding several startups like Coinsence, a Tunisian token project experimenting with ERC-20 tokens for community currencies.

Over the next two years, Fabian said UNICEF’s goal is to help schools without internet connections get online by supporting local tech ventures, some of which may choose to run their own cryptocurrency nodes and earn revenue from providing connectivity to people and businesses in the surrounding neighborhoods.

In addition to the global school initiative, called GIGA, Chabrak said he hopes community currencies in Tunisia will be designed to help nonprofits and universities promote the United Nations’ sustainability goals by incentivizing eco-friendly habits.
