Worldcloud launches to simplify hosting on Internet Computer

A new project is looking to change how developers and small businesses host their websites on the Internet Computer. Worldcloud, founded by Giorgio, is now live and offers a managed decentralised cloud hosting solution that promises to make deployment more straightforward for those building front-end applications.

Worldcloud positions itself as a bridge between traditional DevOps practices and the Internet Computer’s infrastructure. Instead of managing servers, developers can connect their GitHub repositories, build projects, and publish them directly on the blockchain. According to Giorgio, this approach aims to save time and reduce the complexity of handling different layers of infrastructure.

The platform has been in development for about a year, with Giorgio drawing on two to three years of experience building on the Internet Computer. His focus has been on making the process accessible not only to individual developers but also to small organisations seeking reliable hosting for their applications.

The cloud services market has been expanding rapidly, with revenues estimated in the tens of billions and expected to continue climbing into the next decade. While that market is dominated by established providers, Worldcloud is trying to carve out space for blockchain-based alternatives. Giorgio believes even a modest share of applications moving to decentralised hosting could create substantial opportunities for the Internet Computer ecosystem.

From a user’s perspective, the process begins with authentication through Internet Identity, which now includes options to log in via social accounts. Once logged in, developers can subscribe to different plans, connect their GitHub repositories, and deploy projects. The system automatically detects configurations such as package.json files and generates the necessary workflow to build and host the application.

Each deployment provides developers with a domain, usage information, and a clear history of their builds, allowing them to redeploy as needed. The architecture relies on a combination of backend canisters, frontend React applications, and Internet Computer tools, including asset canisters for static file storage and boundary nodes for domain registration.

One of the core differences Giorgio highlights is that Worldcloud does not require setting up physical servers or data centres. Instead, it takes advantage of the Internet Computer’s existing network of nodes, turning them into the backbone for decentralised hosting. This, he argues, simplifies the process of building and scaling applications by focusing on code rather than hardware management.

The question now is whether developers and businesses will be ready to embrace this alternative model. Established providers like AWS, Azure and Google Cloud remain deeply entrenched, but decentralised hosting has been attracting interest, particularly from communities that prioritise transparency, resilience, and independence from centralised infrastructure.

Worldcloud is available at https://worldcloud.app, where developers can try out the platform and explore its hosting options.

Dear Reader,

Ledger Life is an independent platform dedicated to covering the Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystem and beyond. We focus on real stories, builder updates, project launches, and the quiet innovations that often get missed.

We’re not backed by sponsors. We rely on readers like you.

If you find value in what we publish—whether it’s deep dives into dApps, explainers on decentralised tech, or just keeping track of what’s moving in Web3—please consider making a donation. It helps us cover costs, stay consistent, and remain truly independent.

Your support goes a long way.
