Dom Wallet has highlighted a recent development in Bitcoin Bitmap technology that could allow an inscription to build an accurate representation of a block directly from data stored on-chain.
The update, titled The Map Draws Itself, focuses on a change to Ord, the Bitcoin inscription protocol, in which /r/block was merged into the project.
According to Dom Wallet, the change allows a single recursive call to return the data for an entire Bitcoin block on-chain. This means an inscription can use the transactions contained within the block to construct its own Bitmap representation without relying on separate off-chain data.
The development was described as a community-built contribution that was later merged into Ord by Casey Rodarmor, the protocol’s creator.
Bitmaps use Bitcoin block data to represent individual blocks as digital spaces that can be owned or otherwise interacted with. Accurate rendering requires access to the underlying block information, making the ability to retrieve that data directly on-chain relevant to how Bitmaps can function.
Dom Wallet said the change points towards Bitmaps that can maintain their underlying data without depending on external infrastructure.
The September 13 update, identified as Day 170 of Dom Wallet’s ongoing dispatches, described the development as part of the broader evolution of Bitcoin-native digital spaces.
The project said the development could also influence how Bitmaps are built and used in the future, particularly as more applications seek to operate directly from Bitcoin’s on-chain data.
