Internet Identity proposals aim to prepare ICP authentication for AI agent access

Internet Identity, the authentication system used across the Internet Computer network, is undergoing a proposed upgrade that would allow AI agents to interact with ICP applications through user-controlled identities and time-limited permissions.

Two governance proposals, 143261 and 143262, are currently open in the Network Nervous System (NNS). They cover upgrades to both the Internet Identity backend and frontend and are designed to prepare the platform for broader support of the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

The proposed changes would introduce an official DFINITY-operated MCP connector and enable AI access during the registration of new Internet Identity accounts. Existing identities would also be migrated to support the official connector.

The proposals are focused on a delegation model rather than permanent AI access. Under the proposed system, every AI session would require explicit user approval, users could disable AI access for individual identities, and permissions granted to applications through MCP would be limited to five minutes.

Additional safeguards include revocation controls that invalidate registrations already in progress, visibility into which identity an MCP connection will use, and restrictions that limit MCP delivery to certified trusted URLs. The proposals also include support for ICRC-167 URL transport, which is intended to improve redirect-based application sign-in.

Supporters argue that AI systems will increasingly require secure identity infrastructure rather than relying on usernames, passwords or long-lived API credentials. They say cryptographically controlled delegation could provide a more secure way for AI agents to act on behalf of users.

As of the latest voting figures, Proposal 143261 had received more than 5.4 million voting power in favour and about 423,000 against, while Proposal 143262 had received more than 5.5 million in favour and about 420,000 against. Both proposals remain open and require at least 3 per cent of total voting power to vote in favour before they can be adopted.

If approved, the upgrades would expand Internet Identity’s authentication capabilities while keeping user approval, short-lived permissions and revocation controls at the centre of AI-related access.

Llama_cpp_canister update gives developers a clearer view of AI costs

The latest update to llama_cpp_canister is making it easier for developers to understand exactly how many AI tokens are used in each on-chain AI request.

Version 0.15.0 introduces detailed token tracking for both run_update and run_query calls. Instead of providing estimates, the system now reports the exact number of prompt tokens used, how many tokens were reused from the cache, how many had to be processed again, and how many new tokens were generated.

The update was created to support ICGPT’s Prompt Cost Lab, a tool that helps developers test AI prompts and compare both their quality and cost. The new token accounting gives developers a more accurate way to measure how expensive each AI request is and where savings can be made.

One of the main benefits is that developers can see whether a prompt is efficiently using cached data or whether it is repeatedly processing the same information. That can help reduce costs for AI applications that run frequently on-chain.

The Prompt Cost Lab also allows users to experiment with different prompt designs, compare results, and evaluate AI responses using automated quality testing methods, including LLM-as-a-Judge evaluations.

The project team says these tools are being developed to help create better and more cost-efficient AI tasks for a planned AI task board that is part of the funnAI roadmap.

The updated llama_cpp_canister has been released as an open-source project on GitHub, where developers can access the latest version and documentation.

Pierre Samaties outlines July progress across the Internet Computer

Pierre Samaties has released a July update outlining a series of product launches, infrastructure developments and ecosystem milestones across the Internet Computer, with projects including Caffeine AI, OISY, MULTI/DEX and Cloud Engines featuring prominently in the month’s progress report.

The update, shared on social media, presented July as a month focused on product delivery and developer activity, while also pointing to several initiatives expected to continue into August.

Caffeine AI was among the projects highlighted, with Samaties pointing to a new brand identity, a business subscription plan, expanded “Anything” functionality, availability on the AWS Marketplace and inclusion in the Claude MCP connector directory.

OISY was also listed among the month’s releases, including version 2.5, Liquidium loan integration, OISY Trade and encrypted Notes. Samaties said ICP had become the largest asset on the Liquidium platform.

The MULTI/DEX project was reported to have launched a game mode and recorded simulated trading activity, with Season I leaderboard rewards completed and plans for Season II to include source code releases and larger prize pools.

Cloud Engines was described as preparing an open software suite covering accounting, human resources, email and customer relationship management, with AI customisation features. Samaties said the service was approaching general availability, although some features were still being activated before a broader public rollout.

Responding to a user who questioned whether Cloud Engines had delivered anything tangible, Samaties said live working cloud engines could already be booked through OpenCloud and that the remaining launch elements related to broader public availability rather than the underlying functionality.

Another development highlighted was the beta release of ICP MCP, which Samaties said would allow AI agents to operate across multiple Internet Computer applications through a single interface. He pointed to demonstrations involving on-chain gaming activity as an early example of how AI agents could interact across decentralised applications.

Beyond individual product updates, Samaties listed broader network metrics, including claims that the Internet Computer had become the second most active blockchain network by daily transactions, while also referencing protocol inflation reduction efforts, a redesigned NNS application interface and a sovereign chat application pilot in Pakistan.

He also said a separate announcement had been completed but remained under a public relations embargo until mid-August.

The post prompted discussion about the relationship between technical progress and the market performance of the ICP token. One user argued that continued price weakness reflected a lack of trust or adoption.

Samaties responded that development activity and token price often diverge in cryptocurrency markets, arguing that protocol performance, sovereign cloud deployments and real-world applications were better indicators of long-term adoption than short-term market movements.

OISY Wallet Adds In-App Borrowing Access Through Liquidium

OISY Wallet users can now access borrowing features directly within the wallet after the integration of Liquidium markets, allowing users to use supported assets such as ICP and ckAssets as collateral without leaving the wallet interface.

The new feature connects OISY Wallet with Liquidium’s borrowing platform, giving users access to lending markets where they can supply collateral, borrow supported assets and track active positions from one location.

To use the service, users can open OISY Wallet and select the Borrow option under the Finance section. From there, they are taken to the integrated Liquidium experience, where available markets display details such as supply rates, borrowing rates and supported assets.

Users selecting ICP as collateral can review current market information before opening a position. The collateral supply process provides details including the selected asset, network, amount, estimated fees and supply APY.

Once collateral has been supplied, users can choose the asset they want to borrow and enter the desired amount. OISY displays key information including borrowing power, loan-to-value ratio, borrowing rate and projected health factor before a transaction is confirmed.

The wallet also provides a loan review screen, allowing users to check details such as borrowed assets, borrowing costs, LTV levels and health factor. Users are advised to review these details carefully and adjust their borrowing amount if a position is approaching liquidation risk.

After a loan becomes active, the Liquidium dashboard within OISY Wallet allows users to monitor their positions. The dashboard displays supplied collateral, outstanding debt, net value, borrowing costs and health factor through the same wallet interface.

The integration aims to make borrowing tools easier to access by bringing market information and position management into a single wallet experience. As decentralised finance services continue to develop, wallet providers are increasingly adding more financial tools directly into their platforms rather than requiring users to move between multiple applications.

Dawn of Machines releases 4-year roadmap

Dawn of Machines has published a four-year roadmap outlining how the project plans to develop over the next three and a half years, with a focus on token distribution, digital land ownership, governance and community participation.

The roadmap introduces a seven epoch emission model and centres on four digital assets with different roles across the platform. DOM is designed as the primary utility asset for gameplay and platform activities, while BIC represents digital land ownership. Certs are limited digital certificates created by using DOM, and CTRL is planned as a governance layer that would become available once the circulating supply of DOM falls to around 25 per cent.

According to the project, DOM and BIC each have a maximum supply of one million units, while Certs and CTRL are each limited to 10,000.

The roadmap is divided into four phases. The current phase focuses on distributing DOM and BIC to users. Later stages include expanding community features, introducing secondary trading for BIC districts, enabling governance through CTRL and moving towards a model where land ownership and community participation play a larger role after much of the DOM supply has been used.

The project says the roadmap reflects its current development plans rather than fixed commitments, with features, sequencing and timelines potentially changing as work progresses.

One of the key themes in the roadmap is the gradual transition from distribution towards participation and governance. As the later epochs unfold, the emphasis shifts from acquiring assets to using them within a broader community-driven model.

Alongside the roadmap, Dawn of Machines has also launched a redesigned website. The updated site presents the project under four sections: Play, Own, Earn and Learn, and introduces a simpler structure for new and existing users.

The new website includes a streamlined onboarding process that allows users to claim a BIC district from a mobile phone and standardises the presentation of supply data across the site, including DOM mined, DOM removed from circulation and circulating supply. The project says the changes are intended to make the platform easier to navigate while supporting the longer-term roadmap it has now outlined.
